Post Description

Pay Scale   Pay Level-10 as per 7th CPC
Age   Not exceeding 40 years for SC candidates as on normal closing date in respect of the vacancies reserved for them. Note- Relaxable for regularly appointed Central/U.T. Government Servant upto 05 years as per instructions/ orders issued by Govt. of India from time to time. For age concession applicable to some other categories of applicants, please see relevant paragraphs of the ‘Instructions and Additional Information to Candidates for Recruitment by Selection.’
Essential Qualification (s)   i) Degree in Engineering in Civil or Computer Science or Information Technology or Masters Degree in Mathematics or Geography or Geophysics or Computer Applications or Computer Science or Informational Technology.
Or
Pass in the final examination of the Institution of surveyors in sub-division 1(B) hydrographic surveying.*
(*As per MHRD OM F.No.11-15/2011-AR(TS.II) dated 10.07.2012 & 06.12.2012 the course offered by Institution of Surveyors have been de-recognised with effect from 01 June 2013. Therefore, the candidates who were enrolled for certificate Pass in the final examination of the institution of surveyors in sub-division 1(b) Hydrographic surveying up to 31.05.2013 are only eligible and the candidates who have enrolled on or after 01.06.2013 for the same are not eligible for consideration to the post of PCHO Direct Recruitment).
And
ii) 03 years experience in Nautical chart compilation and digital cartography (Experience should be from Government or autonomous organisation or statutory body or public sector undertaking or University or recognised research institution).

Note 1- Qualifications are relaxable at the discretion of the Union Public Service Commission, for reasons to be recorded in writing, in case of candidates otherwise well qualified.
Note 2- The qualification(s) regarding experience is/are relaxable at the discretion of the Union Public Service Commission, for reasons to be recorded in writing, in the case of candidates belonging to Schedule Castes, if any stage of selection, the Commission is of the opinion that sufficient number of candidates from this community possessing the requisite experience are not likely to be available to fill up the vacancies reserved for them.
Desirable Qualification (s)   i) Certificate or diploma in a foreign language, preferably French.
ii) At least 01 year experience in application of geographical information system technology.
Duty(ies)   1. Surveying and preparation of navigational charts and publications for navigation and marine safety.
2. The job of completion and production of navigational charts and publications is performed by team of Principal Civil Hydrographic Officers who are specialized in nautical cartography.
3. Confirmation of Geodetic data, calculation and plotting of projections to assist in compilation of navigational and other charts.
