Post Description

Pay Scale	In the pay band of Pre-revised pay scale of Rs. 9300-34800/- plus Grade Pay-4600/- (Revised Pay matrix Rs. 44900-142400/- , level 7 in the pay matrix)
Age	Not Exceeding 30 Years. Relaxable for regularly appointed Central/U.T Government servant up to five years as per instructions/orders issued by the Government of India from time to time. Essential Qualification (s)	(a) Educational- (i) Degree of a recognized university or equivalent. Note 1- Qualifications are relaxable at the discretion of the Union Public Service Commission in the case of candidates otherwise well qualified. (b) Experience- (i) 3 years experience in administration and establishment matters.
Desirable Qualification (s)	(i) Degree in Law of a recognized university or equivalent. (ii) Knowledge of Merchant Shipping Laws & Maritime Labour problems. (iii) Working knowledge of Hindi.
Duty(ies)	Assistant Shipping Masters and Assistant Directors assist the Shipping Masters and Directors in monitoring the statutory functions viz. engagement and discharge of seafarers, treatment and welfare of distressed seamen, settlement of disputes between the seafarers and their employers, issue of continuous discharge certificates (CDC), registration of indenture of cadets engaged by shipping companies, issue of inward/outward clearance to ships calling at the respective ports, conduct of enquiries into death onboard ships, issuance of Bio-Metric Seafarers Identity Documents (BSID).
Probation	Two years for Direct Recruits
Headquarters	Head Quarter is the Directorate General of Shipping, Mumbai and liable to transfer to Govt. Shipping Office/Seamen’s Employment Office under the Principal Officer, Mercantile Marine Department, Mumbai/Kolkata/Chennai.
Other Details	General Central Service-Group ‘B’ Gazetted Non-Ministerial. The post is permanent.
Any Other Conditions	Governed by the New Pension Scheme w.e.f. 01/01/2004.
